The Los Angeles Black LGBT Network holds its first meeting of the new year tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 12, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm In The Meantime Men’s Kickback, 4067 W. Pico Blvd in LA, 90019.

There are a number of topics to be discussed, including developing a Master Calendar so individuals and different groups know who’s doing what when. For instance, the Jordan/Rustin Coalition and the Here To Stay Coalition are working on recruiting volunteers to march in the Martin Luther King Jr. Kingdom Day Parade on Monday, Jan. 17, gathering in Leimert Park. The parade starts at 11 a.m. According to a note posted at the LA Weekly, there is a sign-making party on Saturday, January 15, between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the Catch One Nightclub. For more information, contact Andre at andre@jordanrustin.org or Here to Stay Coalition at heretostaycoalition@gmail.com.

Additionally, the network meeting will discuss ATBLA’s  accelerated planning for the annual July Pride event. ATBLA is also expanding their visibility, including a recent successful toy drive to support LGBT parents.

Another point of discussion will be In The Meantime’s Project Elevate, funded through a grant from Liberty Hill, which ITMTM’s Jeffrey King describes as “a vehicle for young Black gay, SGL, and bisexual men to come together in a countywide educational and mobilization effort.” The discussion will be lead by the Young Black Men’s Taskforce to discuss in their upcoming Project Elevate Training Academy for Brothers 18-29 Years of Age, Wednesday, January 19, 2011, 7-9p.m. at the Kickback Lounge, Drop-In Wellness Space @ In The Meantime. You must confirm your attendance at (323) 733-4868. Please ask for Cornelius Wilson.

There will also be discussion about the meeting on Thursday, January 27, 2011 @ 7-9p.m. at In The Meantime’s Kickback Space: “In The Meantime’s Annual ‘Elders Circle’, co-hosted by In The Meantime’s Project Elevate Young Black Men’s Taskforce and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Los Angeles, (SCLC), Thursday, January 25, 2011, 7-9p.m., This panel / Discussion will bring together our Black and Black LGBT elders to discuss where we have been as a people and what it was like growing up in a world where Black LGBT were even less accepted than today. How far have we really come?  All are welcome to attend.”
