When she first learned that U.S. Navy Seals had killed terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden in a furious firefight, Alice Hoagland’s mind went back to the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, when a handful of Americans aboard the doomed United Airlines Flight 93 — among them, her son Mark Bingham — fought evil hand-to-hand.
“I think it is a point in time of which the American people can be very proud, which we can take stock in and realize how very valuable our intelligence community and our military are,” Hoagland told TODAY’s Meredith Vieira in an exclusive interview Monday.
“I’m so proud of the courageous men who took the matter into hand, seized the moment, just as guys did on Flight 93. They didn’t let the moment pass, they nailed it, and they got their man. And I’m very grateful to them, and I’m sure I speak for a lot of 9/11 families when I say that.”
