People For the American Way on Texas Gov Rick Perry’s Ties to ‘Hate-Monger’ Bryan Fischer

by Karen Ocamb on June 18, 2011

Big news so far Saturday is that a straight member of GetEQUAL “glittered” Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann after an event. (Here’s the press release and here’s a link to the :25 video.) But we might want to keep our eye on Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who is being touted by some grassroots conservatives as an “alternative” to the GOP’s lackluster roster of announced candidates. On her Friday, June 17 show, Rachel Maddow did a terrific job of illustrating how Perry’s claims of economic success in Texas are vastly exaggerated (she also looked at how the Republican right is trying to undermine minority voting rights, and hence democracy). But mainstream media at some point will probably look at these issues while they may ignore a report issued by People For the American Way about Bryan Fischer, the “hate monger” behind an upcoming Christian event promoted by Perry. Peter Montgomery, Senior fellow for People For, was on Lawrence O’Donnell’s show The Last Word on Thursday with a glimpse into the vitriol we can expect.

I really need to thank John Michael Vore in Indianapolis for pointing me to your site: I love it. It’s thrilling and informative. What is going on now in our country is nothing new (not if you’re past 60, and remember the pre-Stonewall world like I do), but the vehemence of it is pretty shocking at times. The good news is that we will not and cannot go back to that world, pre-Stonewall—there’s no way it’s going to happen, and the reason why we’ve made such incredible progress is because, as Frank Kameny said, “”We’re right.”

Thanks, Perry. And yes – WE’RE RIGHT!
