Much has been made over a statement issued Monday from former Ron Paul congressional staff and one-time personal assistant Eric Dondero who alleges that the now top tier Republican presidential candidate is anti-Israel, “out of touch” with black and Hispanic voters and is “uncomfortable” and “unsettled by being around gays personally.” Dondero also tells two stories of how Paul refused to use the bathroom of a San Francisco gay supporter and swatted away the outstretched hand of another gay supporter.
Paul has previously described Dondero (who is also known as Eric Rittberg) as a “disgruntedl former employee” and on Tuesday the campaign told The Daily Caller that “Eric Rittberg was fired for performance issues.” Paul campaign chairman Jesse Benton wouldn’t elaborate out of respect for the privacy of the former employee.
Nonetheless, Dondero/Rittberg’s allegations about Paul’s personal uneasiness with gays seems to have a chunk of truth when you look at the way Ron Paul freaked out when he got punked by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen.
