He was a fighter right to the end. I do not know how he did it. He was ill for so long. Thank you to all his face book friends every where for the beautifu words of tribute to him I wish he had known how special he was. I think now he might.

This piece is such a great tribute to Mike. Rex & Fred: He thought the world of you guys. He talked about you all the time when we would meet up for coffee or breakfast at Babycakes or for cocktails at Caliph. I’ll miss those “coffee talks” and of course the unabashed gaping at, and commenting on, all the men that would grace our field of vision.

And by the way, the puppy in my avatar (I really have no idea how that photo got there!) is Mila, whom Mike and I adopted in 2000. She’s now living with a relative of his. I’m sure she misses her daddy.

He was also — at various times, and sometimes simultaneously — a motorcyclist, a fly fisherman, a country two-stepper, and a superb cook. He loved Nineties electronica and British comedy — especially ‘Blackadder’ and ‘Monty Python.’ And he was rather devoted to the art of the cocktail. So if you want to honor his memory today, put on some Kruder & Dorfmeister, mix yourself a nice Negroni (1 part each gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth), and repeat, “He’s not the Messiah — he’s a very naughty boy!”

This is a truly sad passing. We were blessed to have and know him for the warrior he was. Some stout hearts wear no armor, carry no swords…
But they soldier on with spines of steel, and hearts of lions.
