Woman Barred from Issa’s Contraception Hearing Appears on MSNBC

CA GOP Rep Issa panel on contraception barred a female witness from testifying

“Where are the women?” New York Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney asked House Oversight Committee Chair Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA). The right-wing Issa refused to allow a university law student to testify before the committee looking into the Obama administration’s new healthcare regulation requiring insurance companies to pay for contraception coverage if employers at a religious institution refuse coverage based on their “religious conscience.”

Ranking committee member Elijah Cummings (D-MD) had asked Issa to include a female witness at the hearing, but the Chairman refused, arguing that “As the hearing is not about reproductive rights and contraception but instead about the Administration’s actions as they relate to freedom of religion and conscience, he believes that Ms. Fluke is not an appropriate witness.”

Fluke appeared on the MSNBC “Ed Schultz Show” to explain that the issue goes beyond birth control:
