Singer/Songwriter Linda Perry Hosts Kick-Off for LA Gay & Lesbian Center’s An Evening with Women

It seems that Lorri Jean and the LA Gay & Lesbian Center have a friend for life – the mighty Linda Perry.
Perry – lead singer of 4 Non Blondes and songwriter to the stars with mega hits that include Pink’s ”Get the Party Started” and Christina Aguilera’s ”Beautiful” – has embraced producing the Center’s An Evening with Women. The annual event – this year on May 19 – is a fundraiser that benefits Women’s Services at the Center.
Saturday night, March 3, Perry hosted a private party for event table sponsors at her Kung Fu Gardens Studio in North Hollywood. More than 200 guests got to see where the musical magic happens – in a studio filled with good vibes and family and an entire wall devoted to drums.
But the focus stayed on the Center. CEO Lorri Jean said she was pleased to see an entire room filled with women. She dispelled the belief that only gay men go to the Center, saying the Center helps 10.000 women a month through counseling, housing, senior, youth and medical services.
“This is a really important event to me in my life,” Perry said, promising that this year’s show will be “awesome. It’s gonna be fun. It’s gonna be rock and roll!”

Perry is keeping mum on who will be the featured entertainer at An Evening with Women – past presenters and performers include Pink, Heart, Cyndi Lauper, Christina Aguilera, Juliette Lewis, Gina Gershon, Renee Zellweger and Sarah Silverman. Some attendees thought Perry might have provided a clue to the mystery star when she sang “Landslide” by Stevie Nicks as part of her four-song set.
Perry is donating her own $30,000 low-rider “Fat Boy” Harley Davidson to the auction while actress and TV “Talk” show host Sara Gilbert, Perry’s other half in this lesbian power couple, is hosting a table.
Tattoo artist and reality star, Kat Von D, who has become another super-supporter of the Center’s women’s services, is sponsoring two tables and is donating a tattoo for the “live action” auction. ‘I get asked all the time to donate my work but this is the only event I donate a tattoo to,” Kat said with a smile.
An Evening with Women takes place on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. This year’s event will again be an elegant dinner and promises to have some of the most influential women in music and entertainment. For tickets go to: www.aneveningwithwomen.org
