Family members of Trayvon Martin – the unarmed 17 year old allegedly shot to death by self-appointed neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman last month – are attending a special congressional briefing on Capitol Hill organized by Democratic lawmakers Tuesday. Zimmerman has still not been arrested and complaints continue to mount over the Sanford, Florida police department’s failure to follow normal police procedures. Martin’s death has prompted outrage and questions throughout the country – including by the lesbian mayor of Houston, Annise Parker who has three African American children. In LA, about 2,000 marched from Pershing Square to City Hall to express their anger.
