Los Angeles-based LGBT rights activist Richard Noble finally crossed the finish line in his 15-month journey to raise awareness about the American Equality Bill. The Jacksonville, Florida Times-Union reported:
The idea: Walk across the nation carrying the rainbow gay pride flag while pushing for federal adoption of a law making discrimination based on sexual orientation illegal.
That federal law, called the American Equality Bill, is similar to the ordinance now being considered by the Jacksonville City Council.
Noble’s walk, which started in California in March 2011, ended Saturday in Jacksonville.
More than a 100 people were on hand as he crossed the finish line, including some who spent time with him on the road, helping him this week as he got close to the end of his 15-month, 2,700-mile journey
The walk inspire him and, he said, and hopefully changed minds about the federal law.
“This isn’t just about civil rights,” he said. “This is about our lives.”
