Maybe it’s just me, but it seems that the Los Angeles Police Department under Chief Charlie Beck has gotten a lot more LGBT-positive – dare I say, even more so than the Sheriff’s Department. Consider that Beck appeared at the LGBT Heritage/Pride Month activities organized by the city, worked with the trans community to come up with historic new guidelines, holds regular community forums with the LGBT community, and put up this banner on the LAPD website for Pride Month. The LASD (including the West Hollywood Sheriff’s station, which is run by the highly regarded open lesbian Capt. Fraser) has no such banner on their websites.
And then there’s the Portland, Oregon Police Department, which made this “It Gets Better” video. Wow. Imagine if the LAPD or the LASD did something like this!
