Updated: This is terrific. On the eve of their winning pre-football season game with the Denver Broncos Sunday, the SF 49ers released an It Gets Better video – the first NFL team to feature multiple players, all of whom are people of color, giving LGBT youth encouragement. Seattle Seahawks’ Mike Williams previously made a video for the effort. This may be part of a trend to end homophobia in sports. News via Buzzfeed indicates that the NBA has become the first league to participate in GLAAD and Athlete Ally’s LGBT training program. If it really gets better – at least in major American professional sports (as opposed to nearly every other area of American life) — then why are open GLBTs apparently forbidden from the playing field? Accomplishing that will take a lot more than good intentions and the ability to read a TelePrompter.
