President Obama spent part of Labor Day campaigning in Ohio before union members, who MSNBCâs Rachel Maddow points out, are key to the financial and ground game in helping Democrats win elections. (MSNBC contributor Steve Kornacki suggests that while union leaders were initially upset that the Democrats are holding their convention â which starts today – in the âright to workâ state of North Carolina and are staying at non-union hotels, they are less upset as the convention gets underway.)
Meanwhile, instead of campaigning to help boost the small post-convention bump Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney received after the GOP convention in Tampa, Florida, Romney spent Labor Day out on his boat.
Though the optics seem to suggest a real 1% versus 99% election, Real Clear Politics, which averages key political polls, suggests the race going into the Democratic Convention Tuesday is virtually tied.
