It’s official: marriage equality is part of the Democratic Party Platform! Here’s that major step into history:
We support marriage equality and support the movement to secure equal treatment under law for same-sex couples. We also support the freedom of churches and religious entities to decide how to administer marriage as a religious sacrament without government interference.
On Monday, openly gay Rep. Barney Frank and longtime marriage equality supporter Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who’s chairing the National Democratic Convention, spoke about the plank with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews.
