A $1.2 million TV ad hit produced by Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS calls openly lesbian Senate candidate Tammy Baldwin “just too extreme for Wisconsin.” The ad in the battleground state blasts the seven-term congressmember for “rubber stamping” healthcare reform and the stimulus bill passed when the Democrats controlled Congress before the 2010 Tea Party revolution.
Baldwin’s Republican rival is former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson, who was captured in this video first posted in full by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel saying, “Who better than me, who’s already finished one of the entitlement programs, to come up with programs to do away with Medicaid and Medicare?”
Two recent polls show Baldwin ahead: an NBC/WSJ/Marist poll on Thursday showed Baldwin with 48% to Thompson’s 46% – but within the margin of error. In a Marquette University poll released Tuesday, Baldwin was ahead by nine points – which Thompson attributed to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s bad press following controversial remarks caught on the secretly recorded recent video at a top-donor fundraiser.
