Poet Richard Blanco, the first Hispanic and the first openly gay person to speak at a Presidential Inauguration, told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that he was “amazed” by President Obama’s inclusion of the Stonewall Rebellion in his Inauguration speech. That these two openly gay men can speak on television to an audience of millions about the gay experience in American life is itself an achievement now considered normal.
